There really is no American tradition Trump won’t stain with his toxic taint.
It has come to light that former President Donald Trump drafted Executive Orders after he lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden to try to use the Pentagon and Homeland Security to seize voting machines in battleground States. He provoked his armed mob of superfans into storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021 to disrupt and stop the certification of Joe Biden’s win for the presidency. He put unrelenting pressure on then Vice President Mike Pence to deny certification of Joe Biden for the presidency once Congress ended their deliberations, a responsibility of the Vice President and Congress that in normal times is generally considered routine. At one point, he even floated the balloon to invoke martial law and set up a sham special counsel investigation into bogus voter fraud claims to stop and/or overturn the results of the 2020 election.
This is pure banana republic third world kind of stuff, and completely unprecedented, not to mention illegal in the United States of America, despite what Trump’s former National Security Advisor and criminally convicted partner-in-crime, Michael Flynn claimed on Newsmax on December 17, 2020:
“He could immediately on his order seize every single one of these machines around the country on his order. He could also order, within the swing states, if he wanted to, he could take military capabilities and he could place them in those states and basically rerun an election in each of those states. It's not unprecedented.”
Trump actually drafted Executive Orders to make it reality.
Apparently, it turns out Michael Flynn wasn’t talking theoretically. These were the people Trump surrounded himself with every day. That he is a narcissist is undisputed. That he can not have anybody around him who disagrees with or, God forbid, tells him “no” on whatever he wants to do is also accurate. That these people went out in public and advocated for the overthrow of America’s elections to stage a coup, so Trump could live out his lifelong fantasy of being America’s dictator who would then simply pass the torch to his daughter Ivanka, as if this were North Korea, just blows my mind every time a new revelation surfaces.
In Flynn’s case, the pardon Trump gave him was a large incentive, of course, but what about the others? What about Rudy Giuliani and retired Army colonel Philip Waldron? What about Trump’s mob of superfans, and the Republican politicians all over the country, who cheer for him no matter what he does? What is their excuse?
The Republican politicians who align themselves with Trump are especially weird, considering whatever Trump touches dies and an endorsement from him is political suicide. I mean, Giuliani went as far as to get himself disbarred from practicing law in New York for this heinous POS, and Republicans lost the House, the Senate and the White House in 2020 because of Trump. Yet, they continue to fall in line for him.
And by extension, what about the state-level voter suppression bills Republicans have passed or are attempting to pass all over the country right now to impede voting rights of people who generally tend to vote for Democrats or who just may not vote reliably Republican? The justification for these bills is based on the bogus voter fraud claims Trump and his stooges started about the 2020 election and continue to use to convince the base the election was stolen and “protections” must be put in place for the next election.
Spoiler alert: The election wasn’t stolen.
It’s all a sham, of course. I know it. You know it. Republicans know it. So, why did they let him take his fantasies as far as they did? Why did they just fall in line and why do they fall in line now, when he has no real power? This is a question I imagine history books will be asking all of us for decades to come.
Bread Count:
Who are we kidding, disgraced, twice-impeached former President Donald J. Trump, who sits at the bottom of the Presidential Historians 2021 Rankings list does not get a starting bread count from which to add to or revoke. He gets zero bread. Always.
